WESTLIGHT

In this dispensation when the music industry records massive number of upcoming artists jostling to make their way to the limelight, one could hardly recognize who is going to make it eventually. But i still maintain that "You will know a gold fish when ever you come across one. Here is an interactive session between KC Slim(Sweet Naija Music) and an Upcoming artiste (Westlight).

R. thanks

Kc Slim: As an artiste, am meant to understand that you have been to a lot of places and you have met people too but its not everybody that knows about at the moment. let me allow you introduce yourself to the people....

Westlight: Yes am very happy and it's my pleasure to have this wonderful opportunity to be part of this program, I am Stanley Onyekachi and popularly known as Westlight,,,, I am a hip hop recording artist and also an author.

Q: Westlight, for how long have you been into music?

R: I would say its barely 8 to 9 months now.

Q: What were you doing before going into the music world and what inspired you to join music?

R: First of all I always know that I was born a star and it has been my dream to be a star someday,,, after my SSCE I could not proceed to the higher institution due to financial instability so I had to struggle to make a living. I could say that nothing much inspired me but is just the right time for me to discover my talent as an artist.

Q: What made you think that music is where your star is?
R: Of course is my talent, some people around me might be saying or thinking that I forced myself into music but that is far from the truth... When they asked me at times, all I could say was that I found myself doing it, I did not go into music out of frustration. It has been in me and I find myself doing it and people appreciate what I do.

Q: As an upcoming artiste, what are your challenges and what do yo consider as the way forward?

R: Like everyone and in everything there are always challenges on our ways and those challenges are the price we pay. For me I don't count on challenges because they are there to make me stronger and remain focused. I love challenges and I embrace them when I see them on my way, I always take my time and I always do my best to handle them. Secondly the way forward for me is to remain myself and to try as much as possible to remain relevant in the game of music.

Q: From what you have said, it means you have faced allot of challenges in music?

R:Yes of course.

Q: Could you give us a little lay down on what those challenges could be, from the studio, to the audience out there,friends and your relatives?

R: Like I have said earlier I do not count on challenges but to your question, my family have been of good courage and most of my friends too. I could not say for sure the audience but am sure the appreciates me and my songs.
Though sometimes I get some discouraging words from friends such as "man don't you think you are deceiving yourself because we did not know you to be a musician which you claim to be" but to their surprise I never get discouraged rather it builds my faith the more and gets me stronger, when I come across such friends, I always have a word in mind.

Q: What could that word be?

R: Men don't worry I am here to prove you wrong.

Q: You believe you will prove all your discouraging friends wrong?

R:Yes am sure of that, it only got me working hard to prove them wrong to the core.

Q: You just dropped two singles recently, are they your first singles

R: Yes they are my first singles" You and Me" Party High" to me I consider them my experimental singles.

Q: So what results are you getting from the experimentation?

R: It's amazing, I can't believe myself most at times I receive calls and people's comment, it gives me courage and believe me these are the songs I did when I was about two to three months in music, I never did music before and right now I am doing my best to improve the more.

Q: Now let's go a little bit personal, are you married or in any relationship at this moment?

R: Am not married.

Q: If you are to be in a relationship what are the qualities you would count on?

R: Well I don't know exactly because am not ready for that.

Q: Lets come down to the entertainment sector, which female celebrity do you have a crush on?

R: In Hollywood, Nollywood, Bollywood or Gollywood?

Q: Lets say Hollywood and Nollywood:

R: I do admire, Angelina Jolie in Hollywood, Genevive in Nollywood.

Q: How would you feel if you were to be in a relationship with Genevive?

R: I will feel good about that, I do love her roles in a movie mostly on a love role with Ramsey. It's always a thing to be wished for in real life.

Q: In conclusion what do you have for your audience and for the upcoming artiste out there?

R: To the audience I am happy for all your supports and encouragement and to the upcoming artistes I have to encourage you, to be yourself and remain who you are, always remember that imitation is limitation. To make it in life you have to work hard and never look back.
